Updated with clarification:

While your email address and password help secure your Blackbaud ID used to sign in to the Blackbaud Community (as well as solutions like Raiser’s Edge NXT, Financial Edge NXT, and Luminate Beta), you can now try an extra layer of security! With two-step authentication, your Blackbaud ID requires a unique verification code — received on your personal device, to confirm your identity — in addition to your usual credentials. If you don't currently sign in with Google, you can now try two-step authentication as part of an Early Access Program!

b0faf9cd3d6a8d3f1f565e3586aa6f2c-huge-2fTo try this extra layer of security, visit your new Blackbaud ID profile and select Turn on under Two-step authentication. When you turn on two-step authentication, you can choose: As part of the Early Access Program: Thanks in advance for your interest and participation!

  • I realize I am probably the only person in the universe without a personal device, but... I hope this isn't going to be mandatory in the future or I will have issues!
  • Hey Debi! No worries, two-step authentication is purely an optional additional layer of security. If you don't turn on this extra layer, you can continue to secure your Blackbaud ID with just your email address and password. Thanks!
  • If we do currently sign in with Google is there a way to try this? If not, can we switch from signing in with Google to not in order to have two factor authentication?
  • It is always good to know there are extra layers of security, but I am quite content (for now) with the current sign in process.
  • I don't mind additional security, however, I don't see the need for it - to merely access a community - it's not like we are transacting/storing payment information.
  • Terrific. A solution to a non-existant problem.

Hi everyone. I'm working on some clarifying language (thanks for the comments and questions). Blackbuad ID impacts more than just Community - we are just one of the spaces that are actively promoting the Early Access Program right now.
  • Graham- We're currently working on the ability to easily turn off Google authentication from the Blackbaud ID profile Holly mentions in the blog post. Stay tuned!
  • As Holly mentions, this EAP impacts more than just the Community, so your need for two-step authentication may vary. If you use your Blackbaud ID to sign into only the Community, this extra layer of security may not be as valuable as it is for others who use that same sign-in to access solutions like Raiser's Edge NXT or Financial Edge NXT. Thanks again for your interest!
  • JFYI, if you (like Graham) currently sign in through Google but would like to try two-step authentication, you can now turn off Google authentication. When you turn off Google authentication, you'll instead sign in through Blackbaud's secure service and will need to reset your password to meet its requirements. To make the switch, visit your Blackbaud ID profile linked to from the blog post and select 'Turn off Google authentication'. Thanks!
