Sending Email Through Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT Quirk

My org currently sends email appeals through Raiser's Edge Web View, and I've come across a quirk that even my IT team is struggling with. I'm wondering if anyone might have insight. When I send emails to myself (both test ones and real ones) from RE to New Outlook, all of the text comes in boldface. Doesn't matter if the text actually contains anything in boldface. If I open the test email in a separate window from the inbox, the text looks like it's supposed to. This only happens in New Outlook, not legacy or Gmail. I tried creating a separate new email, same results. I tried looking in Outlook's settings, but haven't found anything and Googling this problem hasn't provided anything helpful. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated!

when you say "all of the text comes in boldface" you mean the entire email body?

Outlook app or Outlook web version? Either way, that is a strange bug? I don't know what could cause that.

Is anyone else in your org experiencing this 'bug' in Outlook? I recommend taking a look at your own Outlook settings, to see if there isn't something being applied to incoming emails (emails you read) - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/change-the-default-font-or-text-color-for-email-messages-in-outlook-1aabb236-01d4-4faf-b998-a4087da3ceab

  • Answering the questions in the order received:

Alex Wong: "when you say 'all of the text comes in boldface' you mean the entire email body?" Yes. The entire email body.
Dariel Dixon: "Outlook app or Outlook web version?" Outlook app.
Austen Brown: "Is anyone else in your org experiencing this 'bug' in Outlook?" Yes. This has happened to at least two other co-workers. It didn't happen to them at first, but when I sent them multiple tests of an email before it went out for real, after the second test, the text changed over to boldface and stayed that way. Future test iterations after #2 then came in boldface from the start. For timing purposes, this issue arose for an email we sent out on 8/8/25. It did not do this before, and I've been sending out emails through RE NXT Web View since January 2025. I'll look into my Outlook settings to see if there's something odd going on.

    Thank you, everyone!

There have been other reports about NXT Email Marketing having issues within the FB Group this week. This sounds less like a you issue and more like a BB issue. Recommend reaching out to support; share your Case # with your CSM to help escalate the case to an engineer that can help you resolve this.

A suggestion if you know some webdev or have in your org someone who does, is to go to outlook on the web, then use browser's inspection tool and check the email body, and look for when the "bold" is added and to what element of the email. For example, you can see form this exercise if the bold was from Outlook stylesheet doing it, or if it was directly from the email body text element.

  • Thank you, Austen. I'll get on that now.
