Countries - where does your organisation work?

Hello international grantmakers

We currently use a free-text request field to capture the country (or countries) that an organisation primarily works in. This is separate from the country element of their organisation address. As you'd expect with a free-text field, we then get a variety of spellings & acronyms for countries which makes dashboards & reporting rather messy.

To improve data quality, I would love to have a drop-down list of all countries, so that applicants can indicate where their project will take place. Is there already a field that is usable in this way? What do you do?

For context, I also can't seem to identify the specific 'country' field as part of the organisation address table either. Is there a way to copy/edit this element as a custom field, so that I could use it in this way to capture where organisations work or where projects take place? I'd be interested in how others approach this.

  • Hi Charlotte, we have added a coding sheet to our application form called "Geographic Area Served". In our case, it's tickboxes as we serve a specific area (province) and want to ensure all counties within the province are served in each round of granting (so <20 tickboxes). The tickboxes allow multiple selections, which works well for projects that benefit a larger area, or a series of gatherings that may occur in different regions. You can also create a dropdown list for coding sheets. If I recall correctly, you would need to have the Blueprint module to create coding sheets.

We only serve organizations located in our province, so the organization location is separate from the project impact location. So the "Geographic Area Served" field is on the Request.

    Hope this helps,
