adding asset, trouble with history tab

We are beginning to use the Fixed Asset module in NXT. I am trying to add assets and in order to get the History tab to stay visible, I have to log out and log back in each time so it recognizes the in-service date as being in a prior fiscal period. Is there a trick to this? Am I missing something? It is not efficient to log out and log back in for every single asset! Thanks!
