Setting Up Hybrid Grading (Standards + Percentages) in K–5 Division

Hi all,

We are transitioning our K–5 division to Blackbaud for gradebooks and report cards and would appreciate guidance on setup.

Our model will be:

  • K-2: Fully standards-based (4-point scale)
  • 3-5:
    • Percentage grades for academic subjects
    • 4-point standards scale for a separate Work Habits & Personal Development section

For grades 3–5, academic subjects will not receive a single overall course grade. Instead, students will receive percentage scores for strands within each subject (e.g., Reading Literature, Writing & Language, etc.). I’ve attached a screenshot of the interim Google Doc report card we used this year for reference.

What is the cleanest way to structure this in Blackbaud?

  • Should strands be skills within a course or separate groupings?
  • Should Work Habits be its own course with a standards scale?
  • Any best practices for setting up grade plans and report card templates to support this hybrid model?

Thank you in advance for any insight!
