Using workflow designer for different types of NEW donor

I wonder what others do. We are looking into setting up a ‘welcome to our charity’ automated email to go out to anyone who has a first time donation added to their record. HOWEVER, some of the team have concerns about event attendees - so when they pay for their ticket, it automatically makes them a donor but we would rather they went to the event before receiving the email. Does this mean I would need to set up several different types of workflow!? I would love to speak to someone who has experience with this! Thanks in advance…
