Complete Cover Update
Published
We are excited to share an update regarding Complete Cover™ with the Blackbaud Raiser's Edge NXT® Community. As this has been, and continues to be, an exciting and evolving journey, we want to share with you the state of our progress as we move out of the Early Adopter Program and into the next phases of testing.
In case you missed it... In October 2021 at bbcon 2021 Virtual, we announced our new Complete Cover model, and subsequently kicked off our Early Adopter Program (EAP) with a group of volunteering customers. We also shared information about Complete Cover in several of our fall Product Update Briefings (PUBs), including Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT® and Blackbaud Merchant Services™.
What is Complete Cover?
Complete Cover is a new model that covers your payment processing fees, so you receive 100% of your supporter’s gift or event registration. With Complete Cover, Blackbaud empowers supporters to choose at checkout if they want to contribute toward processing costs. This is a totally optional action for the supporter. Blackbaud covers processing costs for you no matter what the supporter decides. Any extra given, we will use to help with our costs. In other words, you will receive free processing for every credit card donation or event registration made on forms that have this feature enabled.
Journey from the EAP and beyond
The idea behind Complete Cover is totally unique in the market. As such, we used the early adopter program to hone the finer details of the model. Our goal was to help participating organizations put more funds toward their missions while at the same time delighting their supporters in the checkout process. We leveraged a model of testing and learning, refining the offering in response to feedback we received from organizations and their supporters. This valuable feedback helped refine and shape the feature.
In January, we successfully met these EAP goals. And in the spirit of testing and learning, we are about to begin our next phase of limited availability: working with a small group of customers (about 100 organizations) to gain insights into the best ways to introduce this feature to a broader audience. Organizations in this group were selected at random to represent a cross-section of organizations already using Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT forms. If your organization is selected, we will notify you via email and within the product. Again, this effort is to test different rollout methods, but in all cases, you will be in full control of whether you want to leverage this feature or not.
If selected for this limited availability, why should you consider participating?
On Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT forms with Complete Cover enabled, all one-time credit card gifts are processed with no transaction fees. This means that you will bring more net revenue in for your mission. Nearly all the organizations participating in the EAP asked us to keep Complete Cover enabled for their forms. We believe you will have a similar experience, but value your decision and feedback whatever you should choose.
Interested in Complete Cover but not currently selected for this limited availability?

I am curious to learn when you plan to make Complete Cover available to all RE NXT users. I received a note that you are in a “test freeze as we finalize plans to launch Complete Cover and donor cover in September.”
We were a participant in the EAP and are pleased with how the program works. Our organization has benefitted from using Complete Cover and we hope that others will have tremendous success with it as well. Thank you Blackbaud for offering this and revolutionizing the whole “donor cover” model!
Keith, thanks for your participation in the EAP and being part of the testing/refining!
Is the donor informed of Blackbaud's cost of processing their donation? Is Blackbaud accepting any amount the donor wants to contribute towards the "non-profit organization's costs" (i.e. Blackbaud's bottom line) or is there a maximum Blackbaud will accept?
Dan, thanks for your questions. There are some resources I want to share with you and the community that helps outline the answers to your questions; all resources are accessible via this Knowledgebase (KB) link:
At the bottom of this KB are resources. The last two resources are ppt videos I recorded that explain Complete Cover in detail. The second video is specific to what the donor experience is like and should answer your questions. Should be easier to watch the 3 minute video than typing it all here. If this doesn't help, let me know and we can dive in further. Thanks!
So is this just available currently with the NXT forms? Is there talk of expanding that to also include OLX forms? Notre Dame Academy would be very interested in this opportunity for OLX.
For Paul Ramert: This article you site - does not exist in t he Knowledgebase. The link goes nowhere. I'm also not pleased that this option is not being considered for those organization who use OnLine Express.
Miki - thanks for your questions. There is no plan to roll out Complete Cover on OLX. Complete Cover will only be supported in the service that underlies and runs the RENXT forms. As we continue to modernize our forms, all future updates will be released to only the RENXT donation form. Of course we encourage you (and everyone else reading this) to start exploring and planning to take advantage of exciting new features releasing this year... and registering for the PUBs is the best place to learn more. Hope this helps!
