Reconciling Financial Edge Batches to Raiser's Edge Gift Batches

Does anyone have a good way to compare Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge batches to make sure that gifts are posting to the General Ledger correctly?

Mary here from Blackbaud University. You're right - those are not courses or eLearnings that will give you exactly what you're asking about - The ones I might recommend if you haven't already watched are the two top ones - Basics of Financial Edge Integrations and Basics of Raiser's Edge Integrations - they both have a unit on the integration of RE and FE. Good starting place, to ensure you've got the two systems set up to talk to each other properly.


I'm looking for a link to that webinar mentioned - haven't found it yet but I will keep digging. It wasn't produced through Blackbaud U, so I've got to do a bit of investigating.


I can tell you from my experience, reconciling the two systems depends on your integration settings and your policies and procedures. I know a some organizations post their Raiser's Edge gift batches individually to Financial Edge so that the transactions from one system are easy to grab by batch in the other. Super vague answer, I know. Let me keep looking for that webinar and grab a couple of resources and I'll get back on here and post what I locate.


I'll also message you separately through the community...being sure to cover all my bases. ?

Hello- I reconcile RE and Fe on a monthly basis by fund. The FE side runs a quick report for total GL activity by the fund account numbers in the month with a running total for year to date. On the RE side I run a gift detail report with summary by fund looking at post date and excluded anything not posted.


we then match numbers. Someti,es. O th,y is off due to different post dates and gift dates but the year to date matches.

And you may be excited to find out the part 3 of the series is all about Reconciliation! You can find that webinar recording here. The first 2/3 focuses on credit card reconciliation and key terms. While those are certainly important points I hope you'll watch, when it comes to the topic at hand and considering how to compare what's in Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge you can skip to about 48 minutes in.

In addition to the reports mentioned in the webinar that are helpful for comparing Financial Edge and Raiser's Edge transactions, which are the Cash Receipts Journal and Gift Detail and Summary Report in Raiser's Edge and the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and General Ledger Report in Financial Edge (filtered using the Raiser's Edge journal code), I also want to highlight the Account Distribution Report in Raiser's Edge which is great for comparison because it shows the debit and credit line for each gift. If you select it to run on gifts that have not been posted, you can also use it to confirm that the gifts will be creating the transactions that you're expecting before you get into the post process.

Piggybacking on Maire's comment about the Account distribution report in RE - that is a wildly overlooked report in any of the subledgers and RE but it contains SO MUCH good information. Because you can filter it for only specific accounts, funds (in FE), projects...you name it. Anyway, likely the report in RE will help you compare transaction by transaction if you're having an issue trying to match the systems up. My two cents...
