Unfavorable Expense Variances

Has anyone figured out how to show unfavorable actual to budget variances as negative numbers for expense accounts. The formula works fine for Revenue accounts. When Revenue is less than budget, the variance column returns a negative number. But since the entire column uses the same formula to calculate variances, it returns a positive number when expenses exceed budget.

  • In the report set up, for instance, the Income Statement in the column that we use for the variance we use the GetFavorableUnfavorable formula.

    The formula would be: GetFavorableUnfavorable({Column 10} , {Column 11})

For us column 10 is the actual and column 11 is the budget.
  • This sounds great, but when I type in that formula I just keep getting an error message "Invalid Function Parameters". Here's what I entered:

I guess I need to take a training course on writing formulas in FENXT.
  • It worked!! Thanks so much for your help! I shared your answer with the support person who was trying to help me yesterday. I'm surprised they didn't know this.
