Seeking input: Grading with CBE

Hi all! We're exploring ways to make it easier to grade CBE assignments, and I wanted to check in to see if you could share some information and feedback. In particular:

  • Do your teachers tend to evaluate CBE assignments moreso from the gradebook, or from the assignment page, or a mix of both?
  • Do they tend to focus on one student at a time (e.g. I'm going to evaluate all four skills for Jane Doe), or on one skill at a time (e.g. I'm going to evaluate this skill for all student down the list.)
  • Any particular pain points when evaluating skills?

Happy to learn here or to connect via email with individual teachers if best! (ben.leddy@blackbaud.com)

  • Hello! Our middle school switched to CBE this year. Here are my answers to your questions:

    1. They tend to grade from the gradebook.
    2. They grade by assignment, not by student or skill.
    3. When grading an assignment, specifically when they're evaluating the content area sub-skills they have linked to that assignment, the fact that they have to use a dropdown menu to choose a rating is a big pain point. Even if they use bulk evaluate. My teachers wish they could type in the rating by hand.

    Thanks!
