Reporting on Deferred Revenue

Hi All,

We just started on RE NXT and I would like to start sharing the gift report weekly with the team.

The problem I'm running into, is for our Annual Golf Tournament most of our Sponsorship comes in prior to the start of the fiscal year, is coded as deferred revenue in RE and is then deferred in FE.

Is there anyway to report these dollars as a part of this fiscal year in the RE reports?

Any help is appreciated!

Thanks!
Kylee

  • You might accommodate this with Appeals. If you pull your report by Appeal (including only active appeals), you would not need to filter by fiscal year. You could pull on “All Date Ranges”. Make sure you have an Appeal set up to match each Event.

This seems closest to your actual report intention, since it sounds as if you are not really wanting a report on fiscal year revenue. It sounds as if you are actually wanting to report benchmarking progress toward this year's event/appeal revenue totals.

  • This is an excellent question. I've also encountered this in our work to report funding that spans across multiple fiscal years. I strongly agree with @Dariel Dixon's suggestion to use gifts attributes for two reasons:

#1 attributes are accessible for use within queries and reports (e.g., include or exclude records containing the selected attribute).

#2 Using gift attributes is minimally invasive; you can flag records without changing your current Campaign/Fund/Appeal structure.

  • @Kylee Hamilton
I'm having the same issue. We use the gift code of Deferred however when we're trying to build our Fiscal reports it is easy to exclude based on appeal. The difficulty is in showing the deferred revenue on the next fiscal reporting.

Have you had any success with this?

  • @Faith Murray Do you have a suggestion on how to do this if we do want to report on the fiscal earnings, but not including the deferred revenue?
