Two Constituents have divorced but are still being contacted about their Ex- Spouse's membership

I believe one party maintained the original shared profile as now a single member with updated info and the other a completely new profile. They are linked under relationships but no where else. How can I make sure they aren't still receiving communication about the others membership.

  • Hi @Kori Van der Bijl,

So there is a divorced couple. One constituent is still a member. The other constituent is no longer a member. The second constituent's record was attached to the membership at one time, but they were removed from the membership at some point. Is that correct? Or when you said the one person has a “completely new profile," does that mean the record was never attached to the membership?

If it's the first scenario (they were on the membership and later were removed), you may want to check the Query Criteria that is pulling these constituents into the communication selection. Please feel free to share a screenshot of your Query. Just to keep things moving, I'm going to take a guess about your Query Criteria. I'm assuming that you have a Constituent query that is pulling constituents in by their membership information. If that is the case, do you filter out Dropped members? That's my guess as to what is happening here. In a Constituent Query, look for the Member folder. There are two fields there and one is called “Is dropped.” Sometimes (depending on what you're doing), you will need to specify that Is Dropped is equal to No so that the query doesn't pull past members still associated with the membership.

Here's a screenshot that includes the Is Dropped field:

Troubleshooting tip: In the screenshot example, you may notice that the last line of criteria is “Lookup ID is equal to 12345.” I would take a look at (or Copy) the query that pulled in this constituent and I would add that person's Lookup ID as a line in the criteria. I'm sure your query is pulling a large number of members. Including the Lookup ID will remove the clutter and make it easy to determine if this fixed your issue. This one person will be the only record in the Results. I'd do this before adding the Is Dropped field to the criteria so that you can be sure the query is actually including this individual. If it isn't, then you may have a different issue. If the person does appear in the results, then go add in the Is Dropped equals No criteria. Check to see if that removes the person from the results (you hopefully have zero results after that).

If that doesn't fix the issue, please feel free to share a screenshot of your query criteria. Or, if it's easier, we could hop on a quick Zoom meeting and share screens.

    Good luck.

    Chris ?
