Best way to give support specialists access to students grades/assignments

Trying to brainstorm the best way to give our learning support specialists access to their students' assignments and grades. Anyone have an idea that works well for them?

Maybe we assign them as co-teachers to all their students' classes? Or, do we assign them a certain role with more access within the platform??

  • @Shannon Craige can you give them a education consultant role, Then assign them to the student(s) and give them parental access so they can see grades.

  • @Shannon Craige we created a Learning Resources (Advisory group) with the specialists as the advisors and the students they work with as advisees. Works great as they use the Bulletin Board and Topics to share information with the group. Advisors can see grades and assignments.

  • @Shannon Craige we do Activities - create an Activity for Support Specialist and then a section with the specialist name - example Support Specialist - Mrs. Smith. Then we add their students to their activity section. But our Support Specialists are Employed in the system as Advisors too. We didn't want to assign an Advisory to them as they would show on transcripts - this is how we got around that issue.

  • @Coco Parham careful with this one - our synced 3rd party notification system pulls anyone who had "parental access as parents" as parents. We had to clean this all up ={

  • @Kathy Hannon Good to know, thanks,

  • @Kathy Hannon if you create a separate advisory “type”, in the settings for that advisory you make sure the show on report cards and transcripts boxes are unchecked. You can also not have it show in the directory. We create Internal Advisories for these types of things.
