Surfacing Major/Minor Assessments to teachers

Good morning, I had a teacher with many classes ask if there was a good way to surface upcoming Minor/Major Assessments to attention for his use. I suggested the list view in Assignment Center, filtered for the desired criteria. I'm interested to know if this has come up at other schools and how you're handling it/surfacing this information easily to teachers. I appreciate your input!

  • Hi, @Lauren Henderson. I'm not sure I'm exactly understanding your question, but in Academics > Grades > Grading Setup > Assignment Settings, there is the ability for an administrator to check the box for which of the various assignments types is considered a “major” assignment. (For us, major are things like tests, exams, large paper/projects due, etc.) Then, in Academics > Reporting > Reports > Assignments Due - By Department or Grade, teachers can run a report to see all the major assignments due across all gradebooks from all teachers in the building to get the lay of the land. It is a grid report that shows a column for each day of the week and then a row for each teacher/class. An administrator would need to grant viewing rights to all teachers for this report.

  • @Geoffrey Goodfellow thanks for responding! This was a one-off situation for a teacher juggling several different courses/assessment schedules of his own. I'm sure our administrators are looking at the bigger picture for all divisional/departmental courses.

  • @Lauren Henderson. Ah, in that case, then I would do exactly what you suggested which is to filter an assignment center list view. That will include only assignments from a single teacher across all of his/her classes with the ability to see just the type of assignments they want to see. I'm having a hard time imagining anything better.
