Mobile NXT: An answer to this fundraiser's prayers

“If you’re in the office, you’re not doing your job.”

 

When I worked as a fundraiser, this was my boss’ favorite phrase, and her point was one many can relate to. If you’re sitting at your desk, you’re not cultivating new donors, nurturing existing relationships, or networking in the community. You’re not doing what you DO.



 Many of the truly successful fundraisers I know spend most of their time out of the office, relying heavily on their phones and tablets anywhere they can find Wi-Fi to manage their constituent portfolio. I recall spending hours(!) in coffee shops, typing notes on my tablet and emailing them to the database manager to add so the CEO and Chief Development Officer wouldn’t have to wait until I was back in the office for the latest information about my constituent relationships. Limited by the restrictions of our database, my fundraising team was shackled to this cumbersome model of duplicated effort. 

 

So imagine my excitement when I saw a demo of Raiser’s Edge NXT and heard again and again how it was “developed to work equally well on desktops and mobile devices.” My immediate thought was, “The jobs of all those fundraisers working out of Starbucks just got a lot easier!”

 

As a former fundraiser, what was I most excited about?  

• Accessing my work center and constituent portfolio on my tablet or phone
• Reviewing a constituent’s record on my phone as I walk into a meeting with them
• Adding notes and actions to the database immediately after (or during!) that same meeting
