Linking Matching Gifts

Hey everyone! 


I am new to Raisers Edge and have a question about linking 2 gifts together. One is the original gift and the other is the matching gift. It was decided that entering a matching gift pledge clutters up the constituent profile and my boss would like me to link the gifts another way. At the moment, I have both gifts entered and reference who is the original gift and who is the matching gift and the date. Is there a way to link these two gifts together?

    Hi Kathleen - Unfortunately, no you cannot link two gift records together unless it is a Pledge/Pay-Cash, MG Pledge/MG Pay-Cash or Recurring Gift/RG Pay-Cash.  It may be worth your while to stick with using MG gifts but hide the "clutter" from general users of your database.  Off the top of my head, I know you can restrict access to gift records through specific Funds.

    I agree with Austen Brown‍ - no real way to link other than what she said. I would also strongly recommend using the MG function as it is designed. I think down the road you'll be quite glad you did. Entering as matching gift provides your match ratios, minimum amounts and other features. Also guarantees the link so you know who MG is on behalf of.


    If the clutter your referring to is on the gift tab in db view, try using colors to make MG pledges/payments lighter, not bold and/or use the Show by Gift Type and don't select MG.

    This is an interesting thought. I agree that sometimes entering a matching gift pledge can be cumbersome, especially as the way matching gifts are being processed has significantly changed in the last several years. My organization is processing many more matching gifts that are combined with the original gift from third parties than the traditional gift/match some months later.  It could be helpful if you could link directly to the match without having to enter the pledge.  However, for the time being, this is really just an inconvenience than anything.  And these should just be soft credits on the gift tab, which should already have a different color code as well.
