Inability to Edit Code Table for Prospect Plan Opportunity "Status" Field
Currently, Altru does not have the ability to edit the code table associated with the "Status" field within an opportunity on a constituent's prospect plan. Right now, we are working on reorganizing our planned giving documentation on constituent records. Especially if agreements are verbal, we don't want to make official pledges on the record, especially when they may sit there for 10 years before the bequest is fulfilled. So, we are creating prospect plans called Planned Giving on accounts where constituents have agreed to leave our organization in their will or the like. Within the plan, we create an opportunity to document the gift amount the constituent proposed and the date we received documentation. The status options within this opportunity are: Qualified, Unqualified, Response Pending, Accepted, Rejected, and Canceled. This list is not very applicable to the circumstances for which we use opportunities. For example, we would not create opportunities for any prospect who is not "Qualified" to even receive an Ask. We use the Accepted status for constituents where we have received official documentation of their planned giving, but we need to specify which constituents have said via email or meeting that we're in their trust, will, etc. that we don't have documentation for. We'd like to add a Verbal Confirmation Status and inactivate those that we never use like Qualified or Unqualified.
Other code tables within the opportunity such as the Type and the code table for Plan Type within the prospect plan are editable, so I do not understand why this code table is not customizable. Please share or comment if you agree! I hope this changes in the future.

Amanda,
Apologies for the late response. The Opportunity status is not a custom field because those specific entries trigger other pieces of functionality within Altru. For donors who have given you a verbal notification, I suggest using the status of Unqualified and create an opportunity type called "Planned giving - Verbal". When you have documentation, you can change the status to Qualified and opportunity type call "Planned giving - Written".
And here's where you can take it a step further...since planned gifts and bequests are so far into the future, most organizations do not have their designations built out. To track what the donor is interested in you can use the middle section of the opportunity. Please see screenshot.

You don't have to specify a designation, but you can use the Funding Method to describe the type of gift you expect to receive (i.e. - Planned Gift Bequest, Pledge or Single Gift) and the Type and Use Code to identify the purpose of the gift. For instance, in the example the Type is Restoration and Use Code is BLD for Building. Another example would be lets say the donor wants to endow your school visits. In this case, the Type would be School Visits and the Use Code is ENDOW for Endowments.
When the time comes, you can add the designation when it's built.

Olivia - when you receive documentation back from the donor about their planned giving plans, do you upload that documentation into Altru? If so, do you somehow restrict who can see it in Altru? We would like to put documentation on the record so that it is all in one place but are concerned that users without access to the Prospect module would still see the documentation via the Documentation and Interactions tab. Thanks.0

Hi Kelly,
Yes we always upload documentation to the documentation tab within the prospect plan. The attachments or notes you put there are not accessible from the primary documentation and interactions section of the constituent record. So typically, all gift backup documentation is uploaded so that it lives in a "documentation" section outside of the main record. For regular gifts, you can also add your documentation within the revenue page, so it is also not visible from the main account page as long as non-development employees don't have any of the Development Officer or Prospect Manager roles.
Another option, if your organization prefers to leave documents and notes on the main constituent record page, is to use the "Restricted Constituent Documentation and Interactions" system role so you can allow your staff the ability to view records, but they won't see the documentation and interactions tile at all on the record. We put this restriction on all accounts that don't need to see donor interactions (which is most people) in addition to keeping certain documentation in different areas as I said above.
Hope this helps!0
