Just Giving Peer to Peer Fundraising Tool

Hello, everyone.  I hope your Monday is going well!  Wondering if anyone has used this free tool offered by Blackbaud.  We are considering using the tool, but I have some concerns with the NXT integration.  Any information you can share would be helpful.

Thank you,

Tracy

    Thank you!

  • We are interested in using it as well, but it is not available in our NXT settings. I also am concerned about duplicate records
  • Hello!  Happy Wednesday.  The integration has to be established.  This 50-minute presentation was shared with a member of my team.  Have you received this?  It may help to answer some of your questions but not all.  I would love to get feedback from an organization that is using the software.

  • In talking with a Just Giving consultant, it sounds like JG integrates into RE NXT similarly to integrating on line donations through On-line Express.  Sometimes this has been a little clunky for us but it works well enough that we decided to proceed with using JG for an important upcoming fundraising campaign. Unfortunately, we have run into a snag. JG allows for adding photos and videos, including captions, to help tell your story, which is cool. The problem we have encountered is that the captions do not show up on our Campaign's webpage, AND JG mixes up the order the order of the photos, making it very difficult to tell your story coherently.  BB acknowledges the issue but says that this problem "may not be a quick fix", which has stopped our fundraising campaign in its tracks. Thought I would mention it here so other JG users or potential JG users are aware of the issue and perhaps could help encourage BB to make it a quicker fix :-).
  • Good morning, Kent.  We don't use Online Express; we have Net Community.  Have you processed any gifts through Just Giving in to your CRM?
  • No, we have not gone live yet with Just Giving due to the issue we are having with photo captions and order.
  • I am confused about JustGiving - I have read that it is a free tool, but when I approached support accessing it, I was told that there is or may be an additional fee.

Hoping to learn more about what actually is involved in setting up the integration. I am being asked to provide:
    - Specific functionality needed in a peer to peer platform
    - Type of events you would like to utilize the platform for
    - Current systems in use
    - Timeline/budget
  • We have been using it for a few months now and have had some success with a couple of campaigns.  It is integrated with RE NXT and the gift process through Gift Management (Batch) just like our online gifts that come through the NXT donation forms.  We have hit a few snags but they have either been addressed or being worked on.  One of the main hang ups we found was that JustGiving allows for donors to cover the processing fee (yay!) but when the gift comes into NXT, it does not include that donor covered fee.  They are working on a solution so that we can balance with our BBMS deposit.

It has not created any more duplicates that our online donations through the NXT forms.  If it can match to an existing record, it does.  We still check every donor that comes in to make sure that there it is not a duplicate record.  But, they are easy to fix with the merge tool in NXT.  It is just a few extra steps.

So far, we have not had a ton of volume on any one day, so the quirks/snags are manageable.  We have developed a couple of workarounds to quickly address and it hasn't been too bad.  Still way easier than using software that does not have the integration.  Our young professionals board LOVES it and raised over $30,000 with their first campaign.  Since they like it and are actively fundraising, I can manage the few extra steps that are involved with processing the gifts.  The nice thing is that it is easy to know how the gift came in and who gets the fundraiser credit since the gift is tied to a specific fundraiser's page.  They also get to see the total raised without us providing reports/totals.

Overall, it as been a good addition to our toolbox, even with a few snags/quirks.
  • Carrie,  Do you use photos with captions in sharing your story? If yes, do the captions show up and are your photos in the order you put them in when building your story?  We are having problems with both of these features of Just Giving and 9 days after BB acknowledged it is a general problem that needs to be fixed, we have received no information about when it will be fixed. This has stopped our fundraising campaign in its tracks and is forcing us to look at alternatives to Just Giving :-(.
  • We haven't been using photos with captions in our stories.  We typically have one compelling picture and then the story.  We also have a cover photo.  Our campaigns have been super simple.  What has made the biggest difference is having someone set up their own page under the campaign and promote it in their networks.  This has not replaced any of our donation pages, although we somewhat tested that idea with our back to school campaign.

Here are a couple of our campaigns if you want to see how we put them together:

    response.

  • Hi Carrie,

Thank you for the information you have provided.  We currently do all of our gift processing in the RE7 database view. Are you able to share how the gifts processed in Gift Management in  NXT view are reciprocated into the database view? I have been assured that all information is reciprocated to the constituent's record.  I am particularly interested in how I am able to query on gifts processed that would include batch numbers from both platforms. We use queries for our weekly reconciliation. It would be great for us to have more information on this functionality.

Thank you in advance for any additional information you can provide.

  • Michelle Nicholas‍ we do gift entry in both database view and NXT gift management.  Because we use the NXT donation forms and JustGiving, those are processed in a batch through NXT Gift Management.  They do land in a batch and then I can edit them from there.  I have a naming convention for NXT batches so that I can easily pull them, so I edit the name of a batch, combine like gifts into one batch if needed and then edit the gifts.  We use database view batch to process any gifts that come in via the mail or to the office as well as anything that comes in through an Online Express event registration form.

Once the batches are approved in NXT, I can pull the batch into a query, edit gifts, make global changes to batches, etc just like any of the batches that I create in database view.  The gift records are the same.  I can query on NXT batches just like database view batches.  The main difference is that you can't set defaults in NXT gift management batches, so you have to edit every gift record.  However, I have a couple of queries that feed into global changes to mass update records that are part of NXT batches.  But, the main thing, is that once the batch is approved in NXT, it works just like any batch that was committed in database view.

Hope this helps.  Let me know if you have any other questions.
  • Thank you, Carrie. This is very helpful. Again, I appreciate your time and willingness to share your knowledge of JustGiving.  I hope you have a great rest of your day.  Take care, Michelle
  • Newbie here.....just started looking at these topics as we move from RE to NXT.

When it's mentioned that a topic is being moved to NXT Community for more responses...where do I find that? how do I get there?

    Thanks,

    Loretta - Gift Processor
  • We just started using it, but we use the version that you pay for. There are some issues with integration and de-duping constituents is required. We use more fields in gift entry than what is available P2P so we have to adjust the gifts to add in the needed fields.  I figure in the next year most of this will be updated and we wont have as much back end work.
  • Loretta Verbanic‍ if you're reading the post, you're already on the page to which it was moved.  My guess is that the original post was not in the NXT product page of the community.  Crystal moved it and just informed the original poster that it was recategorized.

  • I have the same issues as Angela.  De-duping records and global changes/imports are required for any additional fields.
