Exporting New Students to Raiser's Edge

I apologize if this info is somewhere else. I've looked and haven't found anything. I'm not sure if I'm searching the right terms.

I've recently taken on a new role at our school and part of this is to get our new students, including families into Raiser's Edge. We had previously tried to use RE Connect, but made the decision to turn that connection off. We aren't interested in turning it on right now. But we'd like to export new families from Core and import them into RE.

I'm curious if others do this and what the procedure is to do it. Every time I start to think it through there are new wrinkles I didn't expect and I realize that I just don't know what I don't know! Any leads would be appreciated!
