Checking for different addresses between spouses?

Ideally, we would remember to update addresses for both spouses when we receive new data from them but inevitably, sometimes this is forgotten. Does anyone have a good process for checking these on a regular basis that you can share?

    One piece to look at is what is your policy/practice around linking/sharing spouse addresses so that when one record is updated it automatically updates all records that share that address.

    Thanks Carlene - our policy is that whenever get a new address, we want to also preserve the previous address on each record (because of Gift Aid) and we've not been able to figure out how to make the most of shared addresses to update both spouses at the same time without losing that.

    At the moment the process is to copy the preferred address to a previous address first, update the first spouse's address and save and then go to the other spouse, where we again we copy the preferred address to previous address and then share the first spouse's address.

    When we migrated to RE three years ago, none of the addresses were shared/linked when they were brought from our previous database - there we had a third record type “household”, which was a container for everyone who lived at that address, so there was even more to update!

    It might be that we need to look at linking all the spouse addresses to help prompt colleagues to update spouses and minimise the issue. ?

    I think it becomes just like some other areas that get a monthly review for consistency. I keep a series of queries in a “housekeeping” folder that are used to review additions/changes/updates and make sure areas have consistent info across records, that records have all the basics we want them to have all all times, etc. Reviewing/spot checking addresses between records could be one of those queries.
