Reporting on New Members (i.e., "Never Members")

Hello, wonderful colleagues!

Our Alumni Association is needing to pull people who are new members as of a certain date. By “new members” they mean people who had never previously been a member. The queries and exports they have tried always seem to include people who have historical memberships from before, which is exactly the scenario they want to exclude. We tried a constituent query where Current Standing = Active, Gift Date between 7/1/2021 and 3/25/2022 (this is the “as of” date they're interested in) and Current Total Years As Member less than or equal to 1. But we got a lot of false positives where the member had previous memberships which had been dropped.

Thoughts on how to get at this number? Insight much appreciated!

    I suggest merging queries. Create one query with membership date to is blank. Create a second query with membership date to is not blank. Merge the first query with the second using the SUB operator. If you have been consistent with date from and date to, this should work. Good luck.

    We've been good about updating the membership date when people re-engage with us. That way pulling files by membership date gives us good consistency when people have come back.
