recurring gifts and credit cards

I'm trying to set up new recurring gifts for next FY. Using the same current credit cards from successful transactions this month, I continue to get the message ‘unable to authenticate the card information’. It doesn't matter which card, Visa, AE, Disc….all result in the same message. Any suggestions?

    Do you have a recurring gift set up for this FY?

    I have edited the recurring gift record when needed for another FY.

    I don't know if you can create recurring gift from a transaction.

    The only reference I can find for that error is this KB article which links to this 3-year-old issue alert. Per the alert, Visa has a “mandate to identify the initial storage and subsequent use of payment information (such as a credit card number or payment token) that is stored to process future payments or donations for a cardholder”.

    I have never had any trouble entering credit card info from scratch or from an online form, but I don't think it is possible to use the encrypted cc info from a stored recurring payment to generate a new recurring gift. Like @JoAnn Strommen I usually just refresh the existing recurring gift for the new year (amend fund, change amount, etc. depending on the donor's intentions) and include a Note in the gift record documenting the change.

    The Recurring gifts for the recent FY were marked as completed. I suspect that is why I can't restart them. Had I known that changing that status would have this impact, I would have amended the gift with new fund, FY etc. Although we may not have known at that time that the donor was willing to continue.

    I am able to enter a new recurring gift and process first payment at the same time which is good. But it won't allow a new rec gift with a future start date.

    BB is working with me on this. I hope for a resolution soon. And perhaps they could add an alert to their rec gift guidance for this situation so others don't fall into the same trap ?.
