Designating Revenue For Specific Programs

Athletic teams and other groups oftentimes provide the volunteers to staff miscellaneous revenue generating activities (parking for special events, receipts for AAU tournaments held on campus, et al). In exchange for the volunteers, we've agreed to designate this miscellaneous revenue to underwrite the groups' expenses in excess of what has been budgeted for them to spend. These receipts are designated, not temporarily restricted. I am considering using the project tools and reporting to subclassify these revenues so I don't need to keep a separate spreadsheet. Are there tools I am not considering that may be less clunky?
