End-of-year tax statements
I'm sure this is a top subject matter right now, but even after reading some of the discussions, I still don't know where to even start the process of running my statements. I tried running it in webview but I need to make some edits to some as well as include our school header but it won't allow me. It also didn't pull all gifts like recurring, stock, etc.
Anyone willing to hold my hand and walk me through the process? ![]()

@Jolynn Uyehara I wouldn't suggest you even attempt to run these through NXT. I'd start with two parts, your letter template and creating a query with the appropriate fields. Knowing all the fields to export is super important. Creating the query and double checking it will take some time, as will formatting the letter, if that is also your responsibility. From there, do a mail merge.
Obviously, that is a very simplistic way to look at it. Others run very complex reports in Crystal or another tool or super complex merges. Regardless of how you will do it, the process I've seen most and used the most is an external merge of some sort.

@Jolynn Uyehara, I have written up a pdf of How To Create Year End Tax Statements (in database view) after having to figure it out last year. If you'd like me to email this, let me know. ?
If anyone else would like to receive it, please post it in this thread I've started so it's easier for me to keep track. Thank you!

@Dana Burton I would love that PDF. I have spent so much time and effort. We hoped to send the end of year statements via webview but keep encountering hiccups.

@Dariel Dixon thank you so much for sharing. It is complex. I tried running it through database and it's pulling husband/wife separately but I need them together. When we would run it in the past, all the gifts would list and then there is a total and our verbiage would be on there too. Basically it was one page. I would prefer not to have husband and wife's statement separate, AND a letter on top of that. Thoughts?

@Jolynn Uyehara Are you using Primary Addressee and Primary Salutations for the name (not Name)?

@Jolynn Uyehara I get it. We had the same issues at my last employer. However, because we used HOH processing, we ran the export for only HOH and included soft credits. We did have some gifts that we had to manually edit and change, but there's almost no getting around some edits.
It sounds like you want to list all the gifts separately as opposed to having a basic summary statement. While I prefer this approach, it does make the letter potentially longer, which is fine as long as you account for it. These letters have a lot of potential as stewardship and donor relations pieces, and I think that's more important that the length of the letter.

@Dana Burton could you send me a copy of the PDF? We just migrated to NXT and I'm sure it's something we will need for next tax season. Thanks!

@Jennifer Barker, I uploaded the PDF to a hosting site if you'd like to view it that way. It can be found here.
