FE Webview only security setting - restrict access to DB view

Hello! I am the database administrator for a small non-profit office. We have been using Blackbaud since 2014. Because of the multiple roles each person performs, we kept the default security settings. We have grown some and our new CFO would like the development officer and others to have access to FE webview only and not Database view. Is there a security setting that for that? I haven't been able to locate it. I appreciate your help!

@Becky Wise Don't believe so. WIth FENXT's login for database view, where the username & password are no longer needed to log in, like we used to need years ago, if someone has access in Webview, they just simply need to launch Database view to access it. The only real way then would be to not allow them to install Citrix receiver or workspace on their respective computers. That would actually prevent database view from opening in Citrix. But to do that you'd likely have to ensure it's not installed, and that IT lock down the use of it on certain user's computers.

  • @Kevin Brazell Thank you! Your answer makes sense. I will put this issue to rest!

  • @Becky Wise I think it depends on what the development staff need to access. If they only need to use Expense Management, then you can ensure that their user in security has a user type of “user can only access online modules” which allows them to only see the “Expenses” tab in FENXT. If they need broader access to Financial Edge/FENXT, then ensure that their group security access only allows them to access what they need. I would encourage them to use NXT web view, but if they really want to use database view (or something isn't working in webview temporarily) they have that as a fallback option.

I would be hesitant to remove Citrix Workspace, without first checking if your organization uses it for something else. And your development users may need it for RE database view (for example, if they run complex queries or exports).

  • I seriously doubt it. If a user has access in Webview, they only need to launch Database view to gain access to the database, thanks to FENXT's login for database view, which eliminates the need for a run 3

  • @Donella Robb Thank you for this reply. Yes, the user does need Citrix for RE. I do have their security restricted to only what they need. Thanks for the confirmation!
