constiuent codes
Each year our students do fundraising then give a class gift. In RE they have class of 2023 constiuent code as alumni? Sometimes this interferes with certain studies. Yes the gift is from eventually alumni but any other suggestions on coding??

@Denise Schlake I would be hard pressed to create Constituent Codes based on class year since that information already has a “home” on the Education Relationship. Are these gifts being given by individual students/alumni or by the class itself?

@Christine Robertson They are bein given by the class itself. So they do fundraisers over their time here and then donate the proceeds as their class gift.

@Denise Schlake Definitely stay awary from a constituent code of “class of” as Christina stated. If you want to keep track of that class either use an appeal of "class of 2023) or combo of appeal package such as Class / 2023, but do not do class of 2023.

@Denise Schlake Got it. If the class is giving the money rather than individuals giving gifts to the school, I would create an Organization Constituent record for the class. If you have class officers, you can link them to that record as Individual Relationships. If you need a Constituent Code, I would probably use Alumni or Graduating Class (if you need to keep them separate).

@Denise Schlake For clarity, you are talking about an Organization record for the Class Gift, correct? Do you have another constituent code that makes sense? I'm not for creating codes that are to specific to be helpful, therefore I don't think that it you should create a code just for these class gifts.
What is the issue that coding them as alumni creates? TBH, I think that code might be best under the circumstances.

@Denise Schlake
I am assuming that these gifts are not soft credited to individuals and/or there is no info collected on who contributed to any given activity that raised $$.Two alternative codes come to mind. 1. They are not actually Alums when these gifts are made, they are still in school, so they could have a constituent code of Current Student. Or 2. – you could have constituent code of Internal Group. I have this and use it for those odd org records that I've inherited or have to keep because of events or other situations. The records with that code are all groups of individuals where the individuals who participated with $$ or stuff are not collected. So for example, Board of Trustees, the Parent Association, the 3rd Grade classroom. It's easy to leave that code out of reports and lists etc.

@Denise Schlake Do you even know what student gave what amount? IMO that would be when you would need a record for each person. We would use constituent code of ‘Student.’
If the money comes in as our senior gift, it is a lump sum and we would create a record for “Class of 2024” and enter gift there. If you know names of contributing students and felt it was needed you could record names as relationship to this org record.
