Business vs Personal Cheque Payment Method

I understand that there are actual differences between these practically, but for internal purposes as a charity, is there any actual benefit to maintaining the distinction? Our staff tend to use “personal cheque" by default for any cheque gifts, and I don't want to make an issue of it if it's not needed.

    @Daniel Wallach We differentiate at the orgs I have been at.

    Certainly not the most important field on a gift entry. In db view, seeing the payment method on gift screen for a SC pledge payment can be helpful at times.

    It's not query field that I have used in 15 years. Have queried on a check #, amount etc., but not the type.

    @Daniel Wallach I have always differentiated when I have entered gifts through DB view, but that is more my personal preference. Web view only shows “Check” as an option and I believe that translates to Personal Check in DB view. While it could definitely be helpful to know if payment was received via credit card, cash, stock, check, etc., I do not believe whether it was business or personal is of great consequence.

    Thanks, sounds like it's a good practice to specify at gift entry, but not something I need to make an major issue of - especially if the option isn't there at gift entry in Web View, which is being pushed over database anyways. I also can't recall every using it for queries (or if I did, I included both to cover my bases).
