Families that defer enrollment to the next year

When a family wants to defer or “rollover” their application to the following year, what are other schools doing?

Inactive them or change the record - incoming year and grade. If I inactivate them, do I need to just re-active or re-apply them for the year? How does this affect the reports (are they listed as applicants for both years? or just the first year they apply)?

Hi, @Kellye Allen! Were you able to get answers to these questions? I wasn't sure if anyone might have private messaged you. If you still need some guidance, let us know & we'll get some answers for you.

No, I haven't received any answers. Thanks!

  • @Kellye Allen - speaking from a registrar in higher education perspective, when a student defers to the next year, If they were already in the “Academic” incoming student status, then I went into "CORE" and changed their persona enrollment status - by deleting the enrollment. It still keeps the record in Core, but not in Academics, nor in Enrollment Management, nor any reports. I don't see a way to ‘track or keep tabs' on students who defer, so our Admissions department will need to keep tabs on that student using a spreadsheet, and calendar reminders to bring deferred students back into the fold when the next academic year begins. Do you have a different process, and how did you handle it?
