Dual Enrollment students

This year, we started offering the opportunity for our seniors to take a course at our local community college. I am struggling with how/if to represent these courses in our system. Their grading scales are different, and so we are thinking we don't want them included in our GPA calculations. I know that others are doing this - can anyone share how they are handling it? e.g. do we set them up as transfer courses, or…? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

@Krista Peterson Would a grade translation be something you might consider? It basically enables you to convert one grade scale to another one.

We just began using Blackbaud and I am struggling to figure out how to transfer Dual Enrollment grades to the students' transcripts. How did you set up your transcripts to include DE grades?

@Josh Janyszek - We don't have a dual enrollment program, but we do something similar to record credits granted for work at other schools (usually summer study). The credit is recorded as counting toward our graduation requirements, but is not included in GPA calculations.

We created a separate Grade Translation table that includes the letter grades we need, but the grades have no values in any of the GPA columns.

The credits are recorded as Transfer courses. We have a generic course called * US Transfer Course Equivalent that uses the special grade translation. (The leading asterisk keeps the course at the top of the selection list when entering the transfer course.) We enter the appropriate name in the Course Title field. (It's freeform text.) We then record the grade from the translation table and the appropriate number of credits.

The generic course settings includes it in transcripts, but the free-form course title is displayed, along with the grade and credit count.

It's been a while since e set this up, so I probably left out a detail or two. I can discuss it with you directly if needed.

We have only a few of these each year, so entering them by hand is not a big deal. If you have a lot, you can import them.
