YourCause Verification Angst in new portal

Hello! Is anyone else experiencing an issue with the required YourCause verification step for new applicants? We work with small rural churches who often do not have EIN# and are trying to figure out a work around to this requirement. Any insight welcome!

Hi. We have a similar issue and we ask applicants to click the “+ Add organization” button and enter any number when prompted for a Government Tax ID. The software doesn't actually check that number against a database as far as I can tell. I was able, for example, to create this fake organization as proof to myself:

    9100ba7c354c7dd7ed2cbfbcd8b68c63-huge-sc

I don't really like it, but it works as long as they enter something. Like you, I'd love for Blackbaud to come up with something better. Even making that field optional would help.

Agreed! There needs to be an option to accept applications from organizations that doesn't require them to “add an org”. The old system worked very well to allow orgs to be added and check their charitable status.

I have advised our applicants to do the same thing - just add any number.

thanks, Patrick! Not a solution I love but along the lines of what we were thinking. Would be great to have the optional option!

I'm glad you have brought this up. We, too, receive applications from small organizations that may or may not have nonprofit status at time of application. And we also have reservations about having them supply information to yet another database where it isn't clear what will be done with it. There should be a way for them to opt out.

  • @Hannah Saeger Karnei would you be able to raise this on the Ideas page - this is the page Blackbaud monitors well and the more votes you get (i'm sure you will get many), the more likely they will look into this.

  • @John Sharples
You're correct, of course, and this is something I try to mediate when I'm importing applications and checking for duplicates. I haven't been able to think of a workaround that minimizes the impact on applicants without creating extra work for us.

Do you have an alternate suggestion? I'd love to share something better with my program officers.

  • @Hannah Saeger Karnei and others in this chat. Please vote on this idea to keep momentum going to have Blackbaud add functionality to be able to turn off NPO Connect.
