Gift Detail & Summary Report should show Soft Credit Donors

It would be great if the Gift Detail & Summary Report would have a column for Soft Credit Donors, along with the Hard Credit Donor. This would be so useful since many folks today give gifts thru Donor Advisor Funds. There are so many fields available for these reports but not Soft Credit Donors. You can even include Solicitors. Now this is the kind of improvements that Blackbaud should do for RE NXT. So many little things like this are not done, which would be really beneficial.

@Joe Moretti - The report includes an indicator that notes when soft credit donations are included, on both the PDF and CSV export options.

@Austen Brown I am familiar with that Austen, but it would be beneficial to have the name of the soft credit constituent for Management to see. I find that to be an issue that Blackbaud needs to address.

@Joe Moretti - Using the example of Roy Kent (below) can you explain a bit more about what you're hoping to see? Roy is the SC donor. Are you hoping to see the HC donor's name as well?

@Austen Brown Correct. It would be good to see the Hard Credit Donor in one column and the Soft Credit Donor in the other. When you run the report to include soft-credit recipients, you then do not have the Hard Credit Donor. You also end up having the Spouse as opposed to the Main person on the record when you choose that. Why I feel having the Hard Credit and the Soft Credit Donor on the report helps tremendously.

@Joe Moretti I think this would be better served by an export. I am not sure that the report would be the best place for it as it already is pretty messy as a report and doesn't have room to add another name column without adding another page.

Then again, these reports were written in Crystal so it's beyond time for a refresh.

@Dariel Dixon I have done it in export, but I felt with Reports moving to RE NXT and being able to export into a CSV report, it would be a good time to have that option.

@Joe Moretti - Recommend you add an idea to the Idea Bank to include the HC donor's name when a SC donor is listed on the report.

@Joe Moretti Actually it is the opposite since when you run the report by Soft Credit, the total are not correct so they are counting the gift twice or three times depending on the soft credit for the gift. An example of running a gift detail, with soft credit to DONOR:

Name Date Fund Cash&Pledges Soft Credit

Smith Foundation 5/2/25 A $10,000 James Smith, Jack Jones

Fidelity Donor Fund 4/5/25 B $400 Ray Jackson

    ABC Company 3/2/25 A $1000 Jim Tour

So the totals are accurate with no duplication of gifts. Smith Foundation give a gift of $10,000 and the President and the VP were soft credited, but the gift is not counted twice.

I am sure Blackbaud can put the available field of Soft Credit Name in the Available Fields. This way management can see who was soft credited and get an accurate total. As opposed to having to export information from something else. Run a report and get your complete info.

Austen's right about using the Idea Bank as the only route to tell Blackbaud to do these enhancement.

This limitation is why I use Query and excel for report needing both hard/soft credit before using custom reporting tool like SQL and Power BI.

Query (option for direct crdit) will produce muti row for each soft credit info you output, then I have a Excel script that combines same gift into 1 row. So a report that looks something like this:

    Constituent IDNameGift DateGift AmountSoft Credit(s)
    123John Smith1/1/2025 $ 1,000.00
    456Smith Corporation3/2/2025 $ 5,000.00 (123) John Smith - $2,000.00
    (789) Mary Johnes - $3,000.00

@Alex Wong Thanks Alex and Austen, but I want to avoid having to do extra steps, when Blackbaud should just fix this issue. Added to the idea bank.

Totally get where you coming from, you can wait for Blackbaud to give new functionalities or take matters into your own hand, I just like taking matter into my own hand and solve a business need rather than wait for uncontrolable factor like waiting for Blackbaud to do something. Good luck

  • @Joe Moretti
Our workaround for this is to put a note in the Gift Reference field. e.g. SC: John and Mary Smith. We then include the Reference field on our report. It's not perfect, but it allows us to run the report for Donors only, with the SC showing in the reference.
