New Spouse Record - Best Practice

Hello,

What is your Best Practice after adding a spouse as a full constituent.

Do you add past giving history or only future gifts?

    Actually it can vary for us.
    New spouse record and they just got married, we would do future gifts.

    If it's a new ‘spouse record’ because per our procedures the spouse needs their own record and they have been married for a length of time, we would SC past giving as well.

    @Courtney Buzzell I agree with @JoAnn Strommen. It would depend, but the question I would ask is why does it matter? If you know when they were married, I would probably look at that date and see about soft crediting from then, but even at that stage, I think it would depend on the constituent. Either something happened that the spouse record needed to be upgraded or you just found some new information. At the least you should SC going forward.
