How to add an appeal to gift records via import in the database view?

    Are the gifts posted to the GL or not?

    If they are not posted, you need to create a query that would isolate the gifts. Then, if they all get the same appeal, you can use a global change. If they get different appeals or same appeal and different packages, use the query to export the Gift Import IDs. Then you can add the appeal/package to these gift import ids and use a gift import but make sure to mark that you are updating the records. Definitely test the import on 2-3 records first and make sure to have the import create an output query so that if you need to go back and further edit the records, you have them identified.

    If the gifts are posted to the GL, you would need to either use the unpost plug in to first unpost them or you'll need to do adjustments on the gifts in order to add appeals.

    adding comment to @Tatyana Leifman's reply - if you are using the unpost plug-in it requires user rights and for good reason. You must be very cautious and select the gift query of the gifts you want to unpost. If you hit the box without a query it will unpost every gift in RE!
    And after adding appeal you will need to be sure all gifts are marked as posted again or you will mess up your accounting side as gifts will post again.

    if the unpost > change> "manual mark as post" route is taken, you will want to make sure that your finance team is aware and appeal isn't something that is posted into the financial system too, IF it is, your finance team will need to know and potentially do GL entry to correct it. Honestly doesn't recommend this
