Global Change - Event ID

With NXT generating a numeric value to the event ID which does not conform to our coding structure; is there a way to globally change the event ID for events already created?

I checked Admin - Import but for events ImportID was not an option; and the use of ImportOmatic did not map to EventID….

With so many events already created and data maintained within, this is the only value that needs to be changed, so we are not looking delete/re-add; just simply replace the Event ID from numeric to our established coded value.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nicole,

Capture your events in a query, then go to Admin / Import / Event and click Create import file. You can just click include all fields to be easy, or, pick the ones you want, Event ID is one of them. Use that file to make your amendments and upload it back in, and you should be good to go.

If it's not in idea bank, create an idea and post link - I will vote for abiltity to change event ID. We also have a coded value used for a few of our special events.

I don't think there would be an option to 'globally change' as global by definition changes everything to the same value.

I'm surprised it's not an available field for import or for Omatic.

I'm not sure this will work, because I believe Event ID is the lookup field needed for an event import. I've come across this when needing to change Campaign, Fund and Appeal IDs as well. You can change the description for those, or event name in this case, but not the ID.

I haven't tried for awhile so may be misremembering. Please confirm if you know for sure that you can change the Event ID with an import.

A global change to event ID would change all the values to the same value, which even if it was an available field in global change, the system wouldn't allow you to do it (an event ID is a unique identifier). I doubt it would be possible for an import, either; it's usually a way to lookup the event or to link a participant/gift/donor to it.

How many past events do you have to change? I would probably make it a data clean-up project for my data entry staff to plug away on when they have time.

@Nicole Barry Import will not be able to change Event (lookup) ID as it is what identify the event record to make change.

You are right that when NXT create a new event, it auto assign a numeric event lookup id, however, you are able to edit it after it has been created

So this should help, however, if you do have a LOT to update, the only other way to do this "quickly" is using SKY API, as SKY API PATCH (EDIT) event record identifies event by system record id, so event (lookup) id can be updated.

Yep, we advised our colleagues to do this exact step, however many forgot. I'll see if my associate who set us up with another connection can utilize the step you suggested above.
