Split gift / Same fund - RE to FE Import
We have been advised to use "split gift" in RE to record a gift that has both contribution and noncontribution amounts to the same fund. Currently, gift processing has been using separate lines in the batch with a campaign for contributions and a campaign for noncontribution both for the same fund. Our RE reports show separate totals for each campaign and that is not preferred for our donor recognition needs. They want a report that shows giving totals not by contribution/noncontribution. The concern for imports into FE is that we were told that "split gifts" would not import to the same fund even there was a gift subtype for the noncontribution amount. Can anyone give me advice on how you process gifts that have both contribution and noncontribution to the same fund?

:This probably should get moved to the Raiser's Edge Discussions.
But since I import gifts from RE to FE all the time, I'm curious: What sort of gift would be considered a non-contribution, but still be applied to the same fund as contributions (i.e. the same revenue account when it gets pulled over to FE)?

Thank you for your question. I added to FE because of a conversation that I had with BB concerning RE. At that time they said this was not a RE concern - it was a FE concern.
As an example:
Fund 10000 gets a $100,000 pledge for an athletics gift where $10,000 has been deemed benefit (suite). In RE the entry was entered thru a "split gift" / $90,000 contribution and $10,000 non-contribution. FE says that it can not import correctly a split gift into the same fund. Only entering the pledge on separate lines will allow for import.

In RE, the Fund is where the mapping to the FE revenue account is. I don't believe there is a way to map one RE Fund to multiple FE accounts, which is why you're seeing that error.
Possible solutions (#1 is preferred):
- Create a separate RE Fund for non-contribution gifts and map it to an FE account # that your accounting dept creates (or already has set up) just for this. Then split the gift into the 2 different Funds when you enter it into RE.
2. After importing, but before posting imports from RE, it is possible to make changes on the FE side. In RE, enter the entire gift into the Fund you normally would use for a contribution. Instruct the person who imports it to FE, that $10K is to be moved to non-contribution revenue before posting. After the gift is posted on both sides, adjust the gift in RE to split it the way you wanted it, and mark the adjustment "do not post".
Solution #1 is the better one by far, because it automatically reconciles the accounts with the funds. The 2nd solution requires extra steps in both RE and FE, and introduces the risk of 2 sets of data input needing to be manually reconciled (a risk that integrating RE and FE is designed to eliminate).

Aha! Here is an even better solution! (I tried but was unable to edit my previous post.)
per Kevin Brazelle:
You can map a Fund to more than one FE account by mapping each gift type or subtype separately, within the Fund.
Create a separate Gift Type just for non-contribution gifts. Then go to the GL distribution tab, and choose the debit and credit accounts to use for your new Gift Type. This works for subtypes as well.
Then when you split the gift, split it by Gift Type, and the appropriate accounts should come over correctly to FE.
