2026 Resolutions?
Anyone have some resolutions for the new year?
I've been thinking about it, and I kind of want to maybe tackle my fear of heights. Slowly. Really slowly. Really, really slowly. Why are my hands sweating?

For me, its to prioritize sleep. Sounds easy but for a night owl like me it might be tougher than it sounds. Good luck with your goal. @Bobby Steurer

You might try a zipline! That seems like a good intro into conquering a fear of heights!

My friend had a good resolution to try one thing new every month. I liked it, taking it! I recently went skiing for the first time in 20 years. I consider that newish!

@Crystal Bruce Ah, great idea. There's a good one in town that goes through a cave in our city zoo!

I don't really believe in resolutions per se, but I am prioritizing my family this year.

It's actually work-related (sorry!), but I want to start writing at least monthly on our team's internal Wiki about how we use Luminate. We lose a lot of institutional knowledge because of normal staff-turnover, and this project was created to let folks easily save their tips and tricks about getting the most out of LO, as well as our in-house standards for the platform.

That's a good one! I'd really like to have an internal Wiki for my staff here.

Like @Lauren Henderson I don't really do resolutions but doing non-work related things is maybe a goal. I find that even in volunteer work I am the tech or fundraising guy, so seeing if I can do some things outside of that sphere, like reading, hiking, etc.

I struggle with Resolutions, as I find that if I start to slide on them, I give up completely. So, rather than a resolution with specific criteria, I have set a goal to use my Finch app every week. Within the app, you can set micro-goals, and update them regularly. So rather than a resolution to go to the gym three times a week, I have a goal to "go to the gym today" in the app, and whenever I check it off my little Finch avatar give me happy feedback.

Not a resolution person but have goals/ambitions in several areas. One is to be more 'social' with work team. I tend to be at my desk to work and avoid all the chit chat. :)

My resolution this year is to make good on my e-reader purchase and actually read during my commute. That's been a tough habit to stick to for me.

The only resolution/goal I had for January 2026 was to clean and organize my garage. Last week, I took the entire week off and focused on that. Resolution/Goal complete - SO HAPPY. It was such a load off. Goodwill was tired of seeing me and I owe my trash guys a can of popcorn.

Bobby - Sending you positive vibes! Start slow and work your way through it!

I love purging old un-needed stuff. Feels great, huh?

This is me! I do the same thing. Great thought to push yourself to be more social. I should do the same. š

I also am not a big resolution person. One thing I am determined to do personally, though, is make it through the Bible in a Year with Fr. Mike.

Bobby I can only speak for what helped my daughter because (knock on wood) that's one thing I haven't had to worry about.
She tried an assortment of processes that were supposed to introduce her incrementally to greater heights and found it only made her hear and anxiety worse so she decided to go for the mother of all breakers of acrophobia.
That's how we ended up in Long Island on her 18th birthday, climbing 12.500 feet into the sky in a twin prop airplane (that has probably been around since WW2). M and while many people ask why you would want to jump out of a perfectly good airplane? we can now say-when that plane is 60 years old and sounds like the propellers are going to stop at any minute!š¤¦š¼āāļøš
For her, sky-diving was something she always dreamed of doing but never thought she could because of her fears. And there's no way to back out once you jump out of that plane. It wasn't my first time jumping, but it was the first time jumping with my daughter and it was just as exhilarating as it was the first time I did it.
Maybe If you find a situation where you can't back out every other minute it might help conquer your fears once and for all?
Our goal for 2026 is to walk the clear bridge in the Grand Canyon!
Best wishes! š„

As an employee I'm pretty perfect so no resolutions needed for work ...
Kidding of course-just tired of making resolutions that could be totally derailed by budgets, supervisor, staff, society lol.
One thing that thing that I am resolute about this year is to master making French baguettes. I've tried on and off for years and have produced edible bread many times, but I want to create and continue to create baguettes that would make a French baker say "C'est la meilleure baguette que j'ai jamais mangĆ©e!' š„š§”š„ š

@Spring Velazquez Ok, I actually really appreciate your response about your daughter. For me, it is totally that incremental fear that ends it for me. I have zero problem with stuff like roller coasters, but any sort of unrestricted heights - I think it's technically called "exposure" in stuff like climbing - strikes something deep and primal inside of me. I can't even climb a ladder to clean the gutters of our not-so-high house. No idea what it is, when it started, and how it got so bad. So, I think being in an un-back-outable situation like that would be good for me. My FIL is almost 70 and has talked about jumping out of a plane together - sometimes jokingly, but also, I can see something in his eyes from time to time where I really think it would mean something profound to him, too. I love that your daughter conquered her fear with her mom by her side. That's pretty beautiful, really. And so cool about y'all's next challenge!
And also, girl, bake that bread! There are few things better than biting into the perfect, crispy, fresh baguette.

I'm doing more cooking, and getting back to creative writing.

I tend to save resolutions for Lent instead of the beginning of the calendar year so that I get to Easter and can assess whether it's a thing I want to continue and also treat myself to a chocolate egg at the same time.
Saying that, I think this year I'm going to see if I can continue to watch more films - I saw 68 in total last year (which included 26 new films and I did watch 5 of the films at least 2 or more times lol).

@Rachel Cavalier What were your #1 Best and Worst films from last year that you saw?
1 -
I do keep a running list of each year's new films ordered by how much I liked them to keep track of exactly this by the time the end of the year rolls round!
The best was Rental Family - it's a really touching, warm hug of a film that's also funny. Definitely the film I most enjoyed in a year with actually a whole bunch of films I really enjoyed (at least the top 20 out of all the new films I saw and even the remaining ones on the list were fine).
The worst was Rose of Nevada, which was an interesting look at nostalgia and the so-called "better" days of the past, but I just didn't like the story overall. So not so much "worst" as "least enjoyed" really.
2 -
@Rachel Cavalier I love that. I used to do the same with albums I listened to through the year. I am going to check both of those out, because I enjoy movies that are great, and equally enjoy movies that are horrible! Though in your case, it seems like both tiers were OK last year.

I have a dream of publishing a novel. I've written the manuscript, had a friend read it, and revised and edited it quite a bit. This year, I've made a resolution to get the ball rolling on publishing it.
5 -
Oh, you HAVE to! We're all rooting for you!
3 -
That would be AMAZING! I love reading books by people I know š
2 -
My new years resolution is to read 1 book a week (not necessarily audio books). 1st goal is 12 books in 12 weeks! I began last week. š
1 -
Holy frick! How do you read so fast?!! I'm so slowā¦

I didn't set any resolutions this year but I would like to make sure I am taking time to enjoy things. I need to stop and smell the roses more! The last several months I have been trying to declutter and simplify things that I can.
