Consecutive Year Giving

Hi. I need to pull a query/export where I can see all constituents who gave 5 years consecutive or more. I tried using the Consecutive Years Report but it only gave me 26 records and that's not correct.

They are not interested in a date range or other gift related information. We only need to see the donors, lifetime giving, the fund description, and the years total.

Can someone please tell me how this can be achieved in either DBV or NXT?

Thank you!

you can use Query in NXT webview.

Is it last 5 years consecutive or any 5 years? last 5 years is easier, but any 5 is doable too

  • Hey Chantel,

Long answer incoming, and the process is tedious, completely locks you out of doing anything else in database view, and overall sucks. But to-date, it's all we've got to work with….

The Consecutive Years Report looks at constituents who gave year-over-year without missing. In the event that they have no giving for a year - due to giving later than usual, deferring a gift to another year, etc - they'll start back at the number of their consecutive years giving as 1. For example, Joe Smith gives for 25 years, misses in 2024, and then gives in 2025 and 2026. Instead of showing as giving 27 years in a row, he's now technically only given 2 years in a row. So, RE will report him as a 2 year consecutive donor.

To-date, there's STILL no easy workaround to this. Every profile in NXT webview does have a field for the number of years total someone has (not just consecutively in a row) - but from everything I can tell, that is STILL not a reportable/query-able field. There's been many threads on BB Community about workarounds and the time-sink it ends up being. My solution over the years, which I picked up from one of those threads, is to do an Export of all donors who gave within a certain year and their total number of gifts. Do that for every year, as far back as you need to. You'd then use format all of that data into one huge Excel sheet, where every constituent is their own row, and all the dates of giving are the columns. You'd then use COUNTIF formulas to count all the years of giving's number of gifts that aren't zero. The sum of all that is your number of years donors have given over time.

@Bobby Steurer - well said: "To-date, there's STILL no easy workaround to this." It's not an easy pull.

Also, you will have a huge file if you are pulling LTG and funds. Rarely, in my experience does a donor only give to one fund.
