Director of Development Operations- National Liberty Museum
The Director of Development Operations will provide strategic oversight and management of fundraising activity across the museum and manage the day-to-day operations of the Development department. The Director will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining systems that ensure the successful and effective implementation of the department’s annual development plan, and oversee strategic and coordinated pipeline growth for all giving areas. This position will be considered the subject matter expert for CRM (Altru) and will lead collaborations across the organization for its best use.
The Director will report to the Chief Advancement Officer and supervise the Development Assistant to lead department operations including, but not limited to: database management; coordinating appeal and other fundraising mailings; invitation and other list pulling; gift reporting and analysis; and prospect management.
The ideal candidate will be a high-energy self-starter with extraordinary organizational skills and great attention to detail. The candidate must be passionate about the NLM’s mission and an outstanding team player who works effectively with various constituencies both internally and externally.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Act as the architect of donor database to streamline processes and reporting, working in close concert with Blackbaud/vendors as needed. Train staff accordingly.
- Works with the CAO and COO to maximize coordination between donor database and other systems, including general ledger software, data capture methods, and e-communications software to advance fundraising outcomes and tracking/analysis of constituent participation.
- Works closely with Finance/Operations to oversee smooth functioning of department and collaborate on organizational projects, including our annual independent audit.
- Directs and monitors database management, maintenance and data health for efficiency and accuracy of donation processing and constituent data management.
- Develops protocols and supervises the processing and acknowledgment of gifts, pledges, pledge payments, and other contributions.
- Conducts and directs analysis on the effectiveness of solicitation, cultivation and stewardship strategies, including comparative data reporting.
- Ensure that reporting is in place to track progress towards goals and departmental activity, and database usage supports this and best practices.
- Ensures accuracy of donor recognition credits, including exhibition signage, website, printed materials and all other donor rolls.
- Provides assistance for select communications projects, including tasks related to the newsletter, impact reports, stewardship reports, publications, letters, proposals, and other reports.
- Provides support for Development events.
- Provide management, mentorship, guidance and professional development to both direct and indirect reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years of Development experience required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with high level internal information
- Knowledge of the MS Office Suite
- Professional level verbal and written communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of Development CRM databases, Blackbaud (Altru) preferred.
- Familiarity of project tracking systems, specifically Jira, as well as research analytics and screening tools
- Can work well under pressure and adapt to changing situations and priorities; exercises good judgment and stays focused on overarching goals

- Ability to represent NLM well in a variety of settings
Working environment:
- Will involve some evening/weekend/holiday work
- Hybrid office work with an expectation of at least 3 days in office, as public health orders allow
