Query Request Template
Does anyone have a template they use when non-RE users ask for queries, lists, reports, etc.
I'm looking for something that will help the recipient decide what they should really be asking for.
Criteria: Single gifts or gift totals, pledges or pledge payments, do they want in-kind gifts included, soft credits, etc.
Then there's the output.
If anyone has something already put together that helps with this, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I have found creating an online form can help with data requests. For many of the requests, the form will provide you with the question(s) they are trying to answer. Of course, there will be some that you need to do individual follow-ups before starting on the request.
It will also provide you a way to organize and manage outstanding requests – and a way to look back at the requests you completed which help with similar requests in the future.
If distributed, it will also allow the users to see what information is available to them. Eventually, you will see patterns/preferences of those requesting info.
Some suggested Fields:
Requested Received Date
Preferred Due Date
Completed Date
Requestor Name
Purpose of Request (Drop Down, i.e. Phone Call, Email, Mailing, informational only, etc.)
Type of Data Request (Drop Down, i.e. Giving History, Geographic, Attribute, Constituency, etc.)
Request Details (Free Form, this is where they'd put in what they are looking for)
Requested Output (Drop down, i.e. Your standardized output, Contact info, chart/table, count, etc.)
Requested Exclusions (Drop down)

@Chris LeBlanc I don't have a template to share, but I do have a rhetorical question that might add some perspective: How often do you, or others reading this thread, have an end user put in a request on the form, you follow their request and give them exactly what they wanted, and they respond with, “No, this isn't what I wanted!”
If you spend more than 30 minutes on average on the back-and-forth per request, abolish the form, and introduce the ol' standard meeting request. Thirty minutes to sit down with you (or screen share) to give them what they want the first time, a mutual time investment. The more they see you work on their requests, the more they will see the work that goes into it, and they more motivated the will be to get more crisp on their requests/requirements, so they can get out of the meeting faster in the future.11 -
@Vered Siegel
Completely agree with your suggestion. It has worked for me this way also.0
