Gift Cards or Gift Certificates

Hi Michael,

We use eCard Systems to purchase physical gift cards. And we use their iPad app to load and redeem those cards.

When selling/redeeming gift cards, we process the transaction in both Altru and eCards. We've used eCards for years and it's been okay.

But I would love to switch to a digital gift card instead. A couple of years ago I researched this idea and liked this platform:

But we were unable to use it for complicated “we're part of a University and are limited to what payment gateways we are allowed to work with” reasons.

I am planning to research if there is a better option for us when I have time.

I'd love to hear what you end up deciding on!

We use Square to sell both physical gift cards and e-gift cards. When they are redeemed, we run the gift card through Square on an iPad and also enter a transaction in Altru with payment method = Square.

We also use Square in a couple other capacities. It is our backup if Altru or the internet is down (has happened a couple of times over the years). We also use it to generate and track invoices that contain secure payment links if someone wants to pay for a sponsorship with a credit card, for example.
