Halloween: How is it different this year for you?

I just put up the last of my Halloween decor! I'm a huge Halloween person. With the pandemic, how are you doing Halloween differently? Still plan on social distancing trick or treating? Maybe doing some drive-thru haunted houses? Just curious how your Halloween looks this year, compared to last.

OMG had to make my husband wait for the first day of fall. Usually, I can get him to wait for October 1!

Neighbor is planning a haunted Halloween hike that will be spaced out with one family at a time going through.

We will be having a table with candy and doing a small socially distanced parade on our small road.

Elementary school is having 6-8 tables where cars will drive through.

Library is having a social photo booth so kids that want to be seen can be.

We are excited for the Halloween blue moon.

Now that the amazing virtual bbcon has passed I should be able to start thinking about it!

What a fun question :)Crystal Bruce‍ I missed so much getting to hug you this week!
  • I have seen some great ideas online for creating Halloween baskets for your kids instead of Trick or Treating.  It is like an Easter basket, but with Halloween candy and fun items!

We're going to go over to the other family in our bubble's house and have the kids trick-or-treat around the house. Then we'll probably just watch a kid-friendly Halloween movie or something.

We already have our Halloween decorations up. Although I still can't convince the hubby to get a 9' T-Rex skeleton or an inflatable 8' dragon for the front lawn.
  • I'm not much of a Halloween person, but I am wondering if I should buy candy for trick-or-treaters this year or not.  I've seen numerous online conversations about if people are going to allow their kids to trick-or-treat.  I might buy it just in case, but the problem is that if the kids don't come, I'll eat all that candy myself!

    Beth Hudson‍ That is awesome!
Barb Faasse‍ Is that a good thing or a bad thing if you end up with candy? If it is bad you could probably donate it to a local school or food bank. Otherwise yay! You might want to figure out a way to pass candy that doesn't involve getting within 6 ft. PVC tube delivery system, hockey stick, table with bags on it. Town or city hall might have an ordinance against people going door to door.

My favorite thread this week - shhhhh - don't tell my husband as clearly I pretend to not like Halloween as much as he does. Although I'll be pretty excited to not have a dementor out my work window in a few more weeks! He is really good about cleaning up the day after and puts everything away in his color-coded storage system.

  • This year I have been slack when it comes to decorating. My birthday is on Halloween, so it is my favorite holiday! We probably spend the day in comfy Halloween themed PJs and maybe take a stroll through town (with masks of course). There is a corn maize close to town so will try to do that as well.
  • We don't generally get many trick or treaters on my street.  However, there are more kids than there used to be so we are "reimagining" Halloween.

We got Halloween treat bags (with seals) we are filling with Halloween rubber ducks, pencils, stickers, erasers, etc and some candy.  We are making labels for Hershey Nuggets with pictures of pandas in costume on top and "Happy Panda-ween!" on one side, "2020" on the other.  Making enough for all the kids on our street plus 5 or 6 more bags.  Putting them on a table in the front yard for kids to just pick up and go.  We are talking about sitting a big away around a firepit.

Might get a bit more candy and bags for if we run out, though.  Haven't decided.

FYI, we enjoy the holiday themed Reese's much more than regular Reese's (way more peanut butter) and this year they have bats, ghosts, and pumpkins in the single serving size.  Yay!
