New Year Goals

As I'm preparing for 2024, I like to set a list of goals for myself both personally and professionally. Among them are things I'm hoping to learn or grow in. For 2024, I want to deepen my knowledge of Power BI, figure out a gluten free recipe for my childhood favorite Christmas cookie and help grow the Raiser's Edge Community User Groups in my region (we've got a group in Charlotte, but I'd love to help start one in the NC Triangle as well as central SC). I'd love to know what others in this community are looking to learn in 2024!!

Bonus points if what you are hoping to grow in gives me topic ideas for my local RE User Group…

My two goals for the year are very different from each other:

    1. Learn middle/front splits
    2. Learn Python

    My goals include:

    • Finish memento scrapbooks
    • Make a backyard patio
    • Improve our donor prospecting pipeline and cultivation tracking
  • @Faith Murray Great goals! I think the prospecting is such an important one for good fundraising. Do you have a plan in place or is that your first step along the way?

(I think the patio would be a great place to work on the other two goals, but maybe that's because I'm already looking forward to being outside in warmer weather!!)

@Christine Robertson, making the plan is the first step! We've had a good cultivation system in place for the past 3 years, but as our efforts have grown our previous rhythm won't work for the new caseloads. We also want to improve efforts toward mid-level donors, as our attention with personal cultivations has primarily been on the major donor level, and we need to improve our reactivation metrics in order to feed the pipeline.

And yes, I can't wait to haul my books and laptop out to a patio table when it gets warm! Goodbye walls and hello trees!

  • @Faith Murray I'll be curious to hear your progress on the donor-front through the year. We're also very major gifts and event focused, and trying to introduce a more robust monthly giving campaign for mid-to-low level donors in the $5-$20 range.

I am thinking too about 2024 and what I would like to accomplish:

    1. Read at least an hour a day for fun
    2. Visit a state park I've never been to once a month and go hiking
    3. Replace boxwoods in my yard with a native shrub (TBD)
    4. Learn to use Power Automate

  • My first goal, truly, is just to get through January without losing my mind. It's a very chaotic end of year at work, and it's been rough personally so far. But it can only get better from here!

My work goal is to learn Python. @Bobby Steurer, maybe we can collaborate on that?

  • @Heather MacKenzie I'd love that. Python buddies! I found this great resource:

  • @Christine Robertson this is great! I want to read more, walk more and learn not to hate Insight Designer. LOL

    Or maybe learn power BI?

one of my favorite relaxing activities was scrapbooking. Now it's handmade cards.

Handmade cards must be fun! One of my aunts makes all her own cards by hand, for birthdays, holidays, etc. It's always fun to see the cute designs she comes up with. They're some of my favorite holiday cards to get each winter!

  • @Christine Robertson my goals this year are to read more, work on my cross stitch projects, get outside more, explore more of my state and to travel more and visit friends.

  • @Tineke Hage Those sound like great goals! I really should get back to my cross-stitch project (I think I've been on the same one for over 5 years…just keep getting sidetracked with other things).

  • @Faith Murray Over the holiday break, I will take an afternoon and make cards for the upcoming year. I love looking ahead to see what ages my friends and family will celebrate, or what significant event. It inspires me and truly makes me feels so positive!
