Summer 2019 Recap: Core & General Features

Published
We're back again this week with an all new summer recap for you! For those of you just starting your journey, we've been taking a deep dive into all of the additions, updates, and changes to each of the K-12 Products that you may have missed over the summer months of June, July, and August. We've a So far, we've already taken a look at Enrollment management, the APIs and School website.

For today's post, Core and other general features have been pushed into the spotlight. There's a lot to get to though one element you won't be seeing much of is Data Import. We're saving that one for it's own post as it has a lot of changes to cover and would make this post much longer and complex than we'd like. So stay tuned for that and for now, let's take a closer look at the other updates and improvements made to Core

Legacy attachments
If your school has users whose profiles include attachments and links from legacy functions, an Attachments tile appears on the Contact card of the user’s Core profile. Use the People finder to access these Contact cards and view the legacy content.

If you want to keep this content permanently, follow the instructions in the online help to migrate the legacy info. Migrated content will appear in the user’s Files and Forms instead.

Ex-spouse/partner relationships
To indicate that a relationship between spouses or partners has ended, schools can enable and use the new “ex-spouse/partner” relationship type. Previously, schools could only indicate that these relationships were ex-wife and ex-husband.

Use this relationship type if you prefer gender neutral relationship types or if your school’s data includes former couples whose gender is unknown, other, or same-sex.

User profile and role membership
Previously, if a platform manager selected a user’s name from a list of members for a role, the user’s Contact card appeared. Now the user’s entire Core profile appears.

And more!
We’ve also made updates to:
  • improve (School) Sky API.
  • the ongoing early adopter program for OneRoster and Canvas.
  • improve and expand Data Imports.
We’ve made oodles of updates related to:
  • Admin Console,
  • Authentication,
  • Blackbaud ID,
  • Email domains,
  • Graduates,
  • Inbox,
  • Passwords,
  • Signins,
  • Sign outs,
  • Single sign on (SSO),
  • Usernames,
  • and helping schools who migrated off LDAP, Google Apps SSO, etc. in recent months.
We even have some projects in progress for “under the hood” improvements and in preparation for future new features.

And that’s going to do it for Core & general features for this week. Have questions? Let us know in the comments below. What was your favorite addition over the summer? While you're here, don't forget to hit the like button below to tell us you've made it all the way through!
