emailed newsletters

Hello,

We're learning many of our email newsletters end up in our members' junk or spam files.  What can we do?

    Hello Cathy,

Email deliverability can be tricky. There are a lot of factors that could be involved like the content of your email, the subject line, or settings in your recipient's email client. That being said, there are a few things you can look at.

First, it's important to know if you are sending via Basic Mass Email or Advanced Mass Email.

Advanced Mass email has a higher rate of delivery and offers a Spam check that allows you to test the email before you send it to see what items in your template are more likely to be flagged as spam (https://kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/104397). Additionally, DKIM signatures can be created for Advanced Mass Email (not Basic) and this could also help. See https://kb.blackbaud.com/articles/Article/65862 for information on DKIM.

Basic Mass email doesn't offer as many features but you can take a look at your emails and look for certain things that increase the likelihood it will be marked as Spam. Is there a higher percentage of the email covered by images rather than text? Are there special characters or emoticons in the subject line? Does your email list include a lot of invalid emails? These are things that spam filters may look at, and sending to invalid email addresses lowers your reputation as a sender. We have some information about email deliverability in general (not specific to eTapestry) here: https://docs.blackbaud.com/email-resource-center/overview/client.

I hope this helps. There's no one easy answer, but hopefully this helps you and your team review what's being sent.

    Best,

    Tara
