Take a Break. Go Down a YouTube Rabbit Hole.
During this time isolating from friends and family, I've found that my YouTube viewing has gotten weirder. And the more quirky videos I watch, the weirder YouTube's recommendations become. So maybe you're working from home or just need a break from all the stressful news. Go down a quick YouTube rabbit hole with me and watch some fun videos.
Like just the other night I came across a video of this awesome woman riding a bike.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GDwVXxYbLeM
I didn't even know that was a sport! And then YouTube went, "You enjoy watching people ride bikes. Have you ever seen Cycle-Ball?" No, I haven't, YouTube. Go on.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGu5XWHh4v0
Then YouTube was like, "You like watching quirky sports, don't you?" Oh my goodness you know me so well, YouTube! So then YouTube recommended I watch Headis, which is sport that combines heading a soccer ball and ping-pong.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRvofUFGdwE
Next thing I know YouTube is going, "Hey. I bet you'd want to see this diabolo juggler win the International Juggler's Association World Championships." I don't even know what that is and I'm so excited! Let's go!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h43vmAyzTgs&t=32
Then I had to calm down. So I watched the video feed looking down on Earth from the International Space Station.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EEIk7gwjgIM
Okay. That was a good break. Back to work. Or maybe you could share a fun YouTube video you've watched recently.

I have really enjoyed "Some Good News" during this time. I cry like a baby each episode because it uplifts me in a much, much needed way!
For those who would like to share youtube embeds, go to the video > share > embed > copy the code > in the editor click the film (next to photo) > paste embed. Taddaa!6 -
Crystal Bruce, my wife and I have really been enjoying "Some Good News". I agree that the program is so uplifting. I love the recent one with the recipe submissions.1

I have been AVIDLY following the "Will it Soft Serve?" channel - the person behind it and his friend Tom produce a lot of videos on other channels, but this has been my favourite series.7 -
Silliest thing ever, but if the Olympics were JUST this, I'd watch every damn minute of it : referring to that bicyclist/acrobat/dancer! THANK YOU!2

Rachel Cavalier, that is AMAZING! I am loving Will It Soft Serve. I went to the channel to watch one. And four videos later I was like, "I need to get back to work!" LOL ? Thank you for sharing that.
Regina Holten, thank you for your comment. I totally agree. I'd watch that if it was an Olympic sport. If you're interested, you can find more videos like that by searching youtube for "indoor artistic cycling". Below are two more for you that I thought were cool.
This is two people on one bike: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDPZkc_4oyE
This is four people cycling in formations without using their hands. It's like synchronized swimming, but on bikes: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JPEccSsWcU
Happy Monday, everyone!3 -
Love going down YouTube Rabbit Holes.....Mine usually start off with something ocean related like Clark Little, to stop my Rabbit Holing I end by watching my kids doing the monkey bars when they were little....

LOVE SGN - and I cry at most of them too...the Hamilton reunion and the Beth Israel COVID team especially at Fenway Park - as I work right down the street (or did..now I work from home and am SO grateful to be able to do so and still have a job)

We watched the latest SGN our Monday after-dinner family favorite. The three sisters dancing in this one are amazing. My 8-year-old is always watching me. Yep, Mommy is crying again.
Last night I ended up on a Brené Brown kick while I was making our stock printed form live in the cloud so it would be useful once again.
I have fallen asleep many nights watching Brad Mondo's channels. Sometimes he seems judgy but most of the time he is just celebrating how beautiful people are.
Super late last night Pinterest kept pointing me to Hula Hoop videos. This was my favorite of those.
I have a shortcut to YouTube in my browser and love starting off with this gem

I have heard of NONE of these people with sites, so I am excited. Thank you!
For me, or us, I should say. We have been binging the same shows. Well, we each have our own. I've probably watched 50+ episodes of the Great British Bak(e)(ing) Show/Off. In no particular order and it is so calming. The contestants are so polite to each other and the judges are actually kind in their criticisms. Presenters funny, even the original Mel and Sue. AND the show actually has me semi excited to make stuff or bake stuff or even cook stuff. My husband is a huge Japanese mid century superhero/monster fan. SO he is watching Ultraman, Kamen Rider and other oddities...ha! My stuff is on Netlifx and his is on Tubi I think. He begins his mornings with back to back episodes of Leave It to Beaver (MeTV).
My point? Oh yeah, we watch stuff that is pretty benign. I've only JUST started looking at all the cooking channels on YouTube - some are people that have been on the GBBS!
We entertain ourselves with shows like the ones mentioned above. I am so in awe of families with little ones during this insane period - finding stuff, teaching things, feeding multitudes - all to please a group - no lie - IN AWE! Ok, back to work.

I love the British Baking Show! Also Zumbo's Just Desserts - there are some fantastical (is that even a word? ?) creations on there.2

For a while all I watched was Youtube rabbit holes on the weekend. It was a strange and fascinating time ?.
But got a couple of good staples out of it! My top 3 topics to watch are- Chefs cooking or preparing/processing food. Bon Appetit has a couple of good web series: Gourmet Makes, It's Alive with Brad
- Random DIY Projects. Things to make from old laptops
- Anthropomorphized animals. Sad cat diary

The Bon Appetite youtube site was introduced to me by my MUCH younger nephew. It truly is fun. What a channel - and it is really interesting to see younger people taking cooking so seriously but still having a lot of fun. Sometimes I scan the background in the test kitchen to see if there is anyone with a gray hair! haha...I really do like it and have gotten some great tips. It IS a rabbit hole as there are so many contributors! I have been cooking a lot but refuse to attempt sour dough. At the holidays I received both cookbooks out by Alison Roman. Attempting her recipes - even the desserts have been lovely. Dining In and Nothing Fancy are her cookbooks. Her videos are fun too. I'm going to share the Random DIY projects with our educators, if you don't mind.1
