SOP when one member of household is deceased?

Hello! I recently began consulting with an organization that uses eTapestry. My area of expertise is Raiser's Edge, so I'm left scratching my head quite a bit over some eTapestry quirks! One issue that has recently popped up is how to handle marking someone deceased when they have a joint/household account with their widow. I have seen discussions about how to mark someone deceased (do not mail, UDFs, etc...), but do not see how to handle it if they do not have their own accounts. Should I create a separate account for the deceased spouse and then a relationship between the two? Hopefully I am explaining this well, I'm a little baffled at how eTapestry treats constituent records... Any advice would be much appreciated!

  • I would copy the joint account to previous (so we still have this info), change the original account to the surviving spouse (make sure it is still marked primary) and add a journal note along these lines "Pat Anderson deceased Aug 8, 2020 and record updated by Chris A." You will also want to update account settings. This approach works fine for us. Good luck!
