A space hotel!!!! In my lifetime?!!! Oh man, so many questions. How would you get there? How much would that cost? Why do you need a CINEMA.. you are in space?!!

LOL. When I was 15 years old, I placed in a kid's essay contest on just this topic. The contest was sponsored by the "Space Frontier Foundation" and asked kids to design a space hotel. We had to estimate costs of travel and how much money would be required in hotel fees to make the station sustainable. Supposedly the winning entries were going to be engraved on microdiscs and planted on the moon, but that project fizzled out over the next decade, I believe. But at least I got an autographed astronaut photo and some nifty T-shirts out of the deal. :-)

But the cinema could offer dramatized coverage of special space events like Mars landings and Europa fly-bys. Or take the 3D cinema experience to a new level with gravity effects during movies. ?

You know what's funny? I was just talking about this a couple of weeks ago to my friend who thought I was making this up. It's very expensive to go. Trust me it's not going to be fun. Just imagine what your dinner is going to be..freeze dried whatever. There will be no pool, no shower, no bed, and say you change your mind and want to go home. You're out of luck you're stuck until it's time to go. However, if you're super adventurous and possess thrill-seeking traits this would a trip of the lifetime. When some brags about traveling to another continent and they ask you if you're well traveled you can say "Yes, I'm well traveled, I visited another Universe!"

Wow! I did not think this would be a reality in my lifetime. But then again, when I was a kid, we laughed at the TV shows that showed the possibility of video conferencing - and I'm not that old - I'm a Gen x'er.

Not even the part about your dinner being freeze-dried/vacuum-packed "just-add-hot-water" cuisine! Our fellow humans up on the ISS find that their sense of taste/smell is kind of dulled up in orbit.


I am kind of interested in the canned bread though.
