Finalsite Integration

Hi all!

We are working on updating some of our policies and procedures surrounding our Finalsite integration and I was hoping to pick the brains of anyone else who uses Finalsite to sync data from their K12 system -

From my understanding, it seems like the designated user who authorizes the data sync needs to have high-level K12 access including Platform Manager. It also looks like the user would need to be a site administrator within BB? Currently, I log into Finalsite and give the consent for the data sync via my BBID, but our hope is to create a user account specifically and explicitly for that purpose. Am I correct in understanding that regardless of who authorizes the sync, they need Platform Manager-level access? What are other schools doing to make sure the integration doesn't compromise K12 data?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

  • Hi Jess,

Dan from Finalsite here! I am not sure I can answer your question from a school perspective, but I am not sure there really is an advantage to using a dedicated account vs. a real account, from my own angle.

We don't store user credentials or anything, rather a token that is associated with the account that granted consent.

One (non-security-related) advantage I guess I could see is that we occasionally see an issue where the user associated with the token leaves the school or has permissions changed which can break the sync. We get alerted in those scenarios and reach out to clients when we see this so we can fix it up as appropriate.

If there's anything I can help with, please let me know!

    All the best,

    Dan
