Reporting & Analytics (Remote position)

As part of the Medical University of South Carolina’s Institutional Advancement team, the Analytics and Reporting Technical Analyst will develop and create reports, analytical tools, and other business intelligence solutions in our Advancement CRM system to provide information and insight to Advancement staff and leadership. This person must have strong analytical and communications skills and a deep understanding of needs and best practices for analytics and report development within a nonprofit fundraising department.

Note: This job can be fully remote, as long as the candidate can join meetings during U.S. Eastern time. The state pay grade for this position ranges from $41,770 (minimum), $59,537 (midpoint), $77,298 (maximum). This particular role will likely fall between the midpoint and maximum.

Job Duties:

  • 35% - Respond to time-sensitive requests from Advancement staff for customized queries, mailing lists, and reports. Determine user needs, develop customized queries and outputs using the CRM system and SQL coding, and create files that can be disseminated to staff or integrated in other software platforms. Monitor incoming requests and document all queries and outputs in a project management system.
  • 35% - Proactively create new reports, data visualizations, and dashboards within Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge and NXT to provide business intelligence to Advancement staff and MUSC leadership. Identify gaps in existing reporting capabilities, document departmental needs, gather requirements from staff members, develop criteria into queries to leverage various data sets, and create the tools and resources for staff to review necessary information. Develop documentation on how staff should use new and existing reports and dashboards, and assist in training staff on best practices. Summarize and synthesize information into presentations and reports for Advancement and organizational leadership. Partner with colleagues across Institutional Advancement and the MUSC Foundation as new reporting needs arise.
  • 20% - Build custom analytics to help the department determine baseline activity, measure progress towards goals, and analyze prospect, donor, and fundraiser activity. Help answer business questions using data stored within Raiser’s Edge, NXT and other platforms. Build custom analytics solutions, such as RFM scores and linear regression models that will allow Advancement staff to segment and prioritize prospect populations for outreach or management.
  • 10% - Complete special projects and provide support for other tasks related to data integrity, data architecture, API integrations between software products, and any other CRM-related needs. Handle sensitive and confidential information with tact and integrity.

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: Bachelor's degree; three to four (3-4) years of directly related experience in nonprofit reporting, analytics, or business intelligence; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in SQL, Microsoft Excel, and an advancement CRM system (preferably Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge or NXT) is required. The candidate should possess excellent business, analytical, and project management skills as well as the ability to prioritize workload and independently meet deadlines. Must have strong presentation and data delivery skills, and have the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of fundraisers, advancement leadership, and other constituencies. Maintaining donor and prospect privacy and following industry standards for ethics and privacy is essential.

Preferred Experience & Additional Skills: One to two years of experience using business intelligence tools (such as Tableau, PowerBI, or QlikView) and experience designing data visualizations preferred.
