Position Summary:

In partnership with The University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC) and UT Graduate School of Medicine's (UTGSM) administrative and physician leadership and working closely with the Senior Major Gifts Officer and Major Gifts team, the Major Gifts Officer will develop and execute donor-centric major and principal gift strategies and will personally qualify, cultivate and solicit major and principal gifts in support of the organizational fundraising priorities and other identified initiatives. Philanthropic support may come from individuals, corporations and private foundations.

The Major Gifts Officer will implement strategic solicitation plans that incorporate our Donor Engagement Process and individual metrics in line with UTMC and UTGSM funding priorities and goals.

The position will serve as a development liaison to one or more Centers of Excellence and graduate school departments. Duties and responsibilities include managing a portfolio of approximately 125-150 major gift and principal gift prospects, soliciting gifts at the major and principal gifts level through meetings, calls and correspondence in order to obtain and/or increase donor contributions for the UTMC and UTGSM and identifying new prospects for cultivation Responsible for tracking metrics for accountability and evaluation utilizing Raiser's Edge NXT donor database.

The successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to plan, execute, secure and steward major gifts. A strong orientation to collaboration is required along with an enthusiasm for maintaining relationships with administration, faculty and clinical care teams and an empathy for individuals impacted by health experiences. A background in academic medicine, health care and/or higher education is preferred but not required for the candidate who enjoys new challenges and is eager to pursue a role in health care philanthropy. This position reports directly to the Senior Major Gifts Officer and works in consult with the Senior VP & Chief Development Officer.

Position Qualification:

Experience:

• At least five years of direct front line fundraising experience with a track record of closing five and six-figure gifts.
• Strong communication, organization, relationship building, and time management skills.
• Works well independently (self-motivated) as well as with a team.

Position Specific Responsibilities/Performance Standards:

• Using a donor-centric approach, identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards those individuals, corporations or private foundations able to make gifts of $10,000 - $500,000 to UT Medical Center and/or GSM.
• Responsible for managing 125-150 current and prospective major donors including new referrals to qualify in the pipeline each year.
• Prepares winning proposals for major and planned gifts solicitations for submission to private, family and/or corporate foundations.
• Successful close on 80% of opportunities/proposals and successful moves management of donors in portfolio using the Donor Engagement Process.
• Average 190+ face to face visits per year, focusing on high value moves each visit.
• Maintains engaged relationships with at least ten Clinician Champion through the Grateful Patient Program.
• Initiate and manage relationships with key hospital administrator and physician leadership respective to the assigned areas of responsibility.
• Works closely with the Philanthropy Advisory Council and Grateful Patient Program for referral opportunities.

• Bachelors required, preferably in business, healthcare administration, philanthropy, communications or marketing
